Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, about as far away as you can get from anything fashion, Mary Catherine began teaching herself the craft of hand-sewing with any material she could acquire. Intrigued greatly by all forms of art and design, she decided she would be happiest expressing her creativity through majoring in apparel design.
As soon as she began her fashion classes at The University of Alabama, Mary Catherine grew extremely passionate about designing dresses for the elegant and chic young woman embracing femininity. Her design style has evolved into creating classic silhouettes with beautifully embellished fabrics. She has an incredible amount of respect for couture with its attention to fine detailing and artistry. Her first collection, La Femme, consisted of thirteen hand-sewn dresses.
Ending her junior year in college, she was awarded the Henrietta Thompson Fashion Achievement Award representing Apparel Design majors. Mary Catherine spent the summer of 2009 in New York interning with the high-end apparel and bridal designer, Lela Rose. For her, this was a cherished learning experience where she feels she strongly grew as a designer by learning embroidery techniques and the skill of patternmaking.
Thirty garments later, Mary Catherine was awarded "Outstanding Senior in Apparel Design". Aside from fashion, she enjoys illustration, graphic design, blogging and photography.
Currently, Mary Catherine is living in Atlanta developing a clothing label.
